Robin Williams
Robin Williams was born on July 21st, 1951, in Chicago, Illinois. One of America's funniest performers,
he attended one of the most prestigious drama schools in the US - New York City's 'The Juilliard'.
While at Juilliard, Robin made friends with Christopher Reeve. He later experimented with comedy in San Francisco and
Los Angeles, developing a successful stand-up act.
Robin first became known to TV audiences as the zany alien Mork in the US comedy series 'Happy Days' and 'Mork and Mindy' (1978-82).
Playing the famous spinach-eating sailor in 'Popeye' (1981) was his first film and since that time he has taken on numerous comedic
and dramatic roles.
He earned an Oscar nomination and a Golden Globe Award for 'Good Morning Vietnam' (1987), another Oscar nomination for 'Dead Poets Society' (1989),
and a Best Supporting Actor Oscar for 'Good Will Hunting' (1997). Other important films include 'Awakenings' (1990), 'Mrs. Doubtfire (1993),
and 'The Birdcage' (1996). He provided the voice of the genie in 'Aladdin' (1991), and the voice of Dr Know in 'Artificial Intelligence: AI' (2001).
In recent years, he has taken on some darker material. He played a creepy photo developer in 'One Hour Photo' (2002); the murder suspect in
'Insomnia' (2002); and a writer and radio host who gets caught up in the mystery surrounding a troubled fan in 'The Night Listener' (2006).
Robin has also shown off his considerable comedic talents in several films, including 'Man of the Year' (2006), a send-up of U.S. presidential politics.
