When Tom Binns was a student, he served a stint as a DJ on hospital radio. He hated it.
Revenge is sweet, and not just for Binns but also for the audiences laughing their heads off at his inspired creation Ivan Brackenbury's Hospital Radio Roadshow.
The title says it all. Ivan Brackenbury is a ham-handed DJ who presents the "Disease Hour" for Chesterfield And North Derbyshire Hospital Radio:
he fluffs his lines, cocks-up his links and has an almost Tourette's-like ability to play the most inappropriate songs for patients' various ailments.
There's a joy in watching fellow crowd members, too.
With so many jokes related to a certain song, there's often a delay in some folk getting the gag and a smug grin from those who named the tune
before it was even played.
Ivan Brackenbury's Hospital Radio Roadshow was a nominee for the Intelligent Finance Comedy Award at the 2007 Edinburgh Festival. What a life he leads!!!
